LIVELIHOOD STRATEGIES OF FISHING LABOR HOUSEHOLDS IN AIR BANGIS VILLAGE, WEST SUMATRA

This research is motivated by fishermen who experience economic problems in household life, where the income earned not sufficient to meet needs of life and even brought UMP (Provincial Minimum Wage) West Sumatra. The average for fishing laborers Rp. 1,000,000. per month, but there are still survive as traditional fishermen. Even though work a fisherman big risk has uncertain income. theory used this livelihood strategy proposed White 1991. approach qualitative with descriptive type. Taking informants using purposive sampling total 7 informants, 1 Jorong Pasar Muara 6 nelayn Muara. There two types data study, namely primary secondary data. was collected observation, interview document study techniques. Data analysis uses miles huberman thinking collecting data, reducing presenting drawing conclusions unit individual. results showed that became main job Market household, continued so they could economy. Besides that, 2 strategies, first survival second an accumulation strategy, form households wife participates helping husband working such selling dried fish market jorong utilize existing social networks borrowing money cooperatives.
